Shhh! The Secrets of Digital Marketing for Small Businesses Revealed

The beauty of digital marketing is that you don’t need to spend tons of money to get great results. You just need to know a few ‘tricks of the trade’ to help you navigate safely through the digital jungle. These may seem simple but you’d be surprised how often they’re overlooked by small businesses. Make sure that your Sat Nav is set on success with these easy tips.

Is your business listed?

You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who doesn’t use the Internet to find a product or a service – only 20% of customers, according to Google. To get ahead of the digital game, you need to make sure that your business is listed online.

Already have a website? Great stuff. Here are a few things you can do to increase your visibility on search engines now.

Google-map it!
Is your business listed on Google maps yet? If not, add a free listing here. You may also want to look into Google ads to boost your visibility on this search engine.

Heard of Bing, Yahoo! and Apple Maps?

These alternative search engines have a good stream of visitors, so it’s well worth spending some time to list your business on these search engines, too. Check out Bing Places and Yext (for Yahoo!) to create a free listing. In order to get your business listed on Apple Maps, you can complete a profile on Yelp.

Before you proceed, though, check that your website’s metadata is optimised for best results.

Meta…what?

The going definition of metadata is “a set of data that describes other data.” If that still sounds like gibberish, replace ‘meta’ with ‘underlying’ and you’re almost there.

Metadata includes anything from titles and tags to file names and keywords that exist on your website. In order to get the best results, your metadata needs to be fine-tuned. This includes the visible name and description of your website that people will see on a search engine, and the bits of underlying data that can’t be seen, like keywords and file names. Most web hosting services will offer help in how to change your metadata, but you can get started with these simple tips from one of our previous blogs.

The best kept secret of digital marketing is still a clean, crisp website that’s optimised for the mobile user and search engines. Over the years, Cre8ion have helped a number of businesses and start-ups create stunning websites and a marketing strategy that brings in results.
