Countdown to Success

This week Olly Reid and myself had the opportunity to share at our regular Hum4ns Talks which we hold on the third Monday of every month at The Square Club in Bristol.

We have just recently hit our one year milestone and it has been a packed year, to say the least.

We had a great evening together and the overall feeling was that the community of business owners and entrepreneurs that we are building is very special. It feels as if, in the midst of challenging times, is bringing hope to the group.

I was next up to speak after Olly’s exceptional talk (I’m sure he will share it at some point). He’s always a tough act to follow!

Here is what I shared for the few who asked for notes and the others who normally make it, but unfortunately couldn’t, this time.

So, I’m counting down to success, and so should you be. Here’s how I’m counting down…

It takes 10 years to become an overnight success.

Play the long game. It will take belief, a tribe to belong to, doing your best always and never losing sight of beyond.

Patience and perseverance are vital when you are building anything worthwhile. It might not come easily but if you are daring enough to embrace adventure, there’ll always be a fair degree of effort on your part.

Don’t get caught in the comparison game, simply remain focussed on the mission you set out to achieve and concentrate on not losing sight of what you are carrying in your heart. Spending your time on the right thing is a worthwhile investment. Time tells!

Nine o’clock isn’t the time where purpose starts or ends.

Purpose lives in the heart. Learn to live by conviction over circumstances.

The nine to five daily grind isn’t going to be enough. Living with purpose as a priority means transcending a mere time frame, it’s the fire that keeps you lit.

That nine o’clock start is not the starting gun. The purposeful pilgrim is awake way before, excited by the present possibilities. A life less ordinary starts less ordinary and at its end, you’ll have a tale to tell. A dream can be executed any time you are awake!

Eight days a week shouldn’t be the norm if you want to be happier, healthier, smarter and kinder.

Each generation doesn’t always approach life better than the previous one but we have lessons to learn from each other.

Learn to learn from all ages and don’t lose the precious and the priceless in pursuit of purpose. Take the next generation along for the adventure.

Clare and myself made the choice to exit the norms a long time ago, and our children live with us, not in a system designed to steal our love, kill their dreams, and destroy our hope of a better future.

We refuse to be separated by trying to survive. We are choosing to build a life where we can thrive. It means we have invested in spending our time differently to our peers. From homeschooling to church, from spontaneous to spectacular, we endeavor to be present in the present and provide a life on our terms, not according to someone else’s agenda. So, we unplugged from the matrix. We refuse to lose each other in recession either by choosing not to take part!

Seven is the perfect time to start that side hustle.

We built HUM4NS by meeting once a week at 7pm.

Each week we have met for nearly two years to turn a side hustle into a movement. It’s an idea that continues to unfold, and 2023 is promising to be an epic year for us both, already!

You see, you have to spend time to get traction. Coasting on Netflix is fun but it will never change your fortune. If you are carrying a dream and you have talent don’t waste its youth and vigor. Make room for its expression and you’ll build something that has a lasting impression.

Seven to eight, once a week is the start of transforming your course and, just as people choose to binge watch, you’ll find more time to build with! Mine and Olly’s investment of time has enabled us to build a community of entrepreneurs and business owners.

Six is what you will get knocked for but learn to get up, again and again.

Crisis comes, but learn to push through, don’t give up.
When you go through hell, just keep going, don’t stop there!

Life can pack a punch and occasionally we will get winded. We’ll want to retreat, but know this, you’ve been here before… you can get through it!

We may fail, but learn to fail forward. Failure gives us experience and fresh expectations. No one has never failed but many have quit along the route. We need to remind ourselves that the sadness will pass, the pain will fade, and in time, our perspective will become sharper as a result.

Life is never perfect, but whatever you do, don’t stop and quit out on progress. Your greatest lessons lie in disappointment and when the victory’s start to come (yes they will), they will taste ever sweeter!

The high five people you need in your life.

We all benefit from hands on experience, so make sure you have the help of the right people to help you commit to the course you have chosen.

Looking at your hand is a great reminder of who should be in your corner at the best and worst of times! Celebrate the wins and fight with endeavour!

Thumb – People we know like and trust, friends until the end.

Forefinger – People with direction, they know where they are going and they can help in this respect.

Middle finger – People who have the most reach, they know people, they are super connectors.

Ring finger – Your partner, parent or family, the one with whom you can share your highest highs and your lowest lows.

Pinky – Someone who is older and wiser than you to keep you grounded.

When you build the right dream everyone is credited because it becomes so obvious that it couldn’t possibly have been done by ONE person.

You will need people with different perspectives, backgrounds and experience. It’s good to be able to see things from a global standpoint if you want to create impact far and wide.

There’s no reason why we can’t get input from people all over the world, after all, technology enables us to travel at the speed of Zoom!

Your dream might make you feel out of your depth, but that’s fine because you need other people to see it through!!!

Four corners of the globe should be your vision.

3D gives you a winning perspective. (The 3 Ds)

Decide, Do, Done – The job is not done until its done! Make a decision and back yourself, get it done.

You have to commit. Stop keeping your options open and choose to be YOU. If you start doing what sets you alight you’re already at least half right. To be fully right, you have to get it done!

There are people waiting on you to be the very best version of you. You have what it takes but you must do what it takes to ensure your gift is truly given.

It takes two make a thing go right.

You need a partner for this rodeo!
Mine is my wife, she’s my rock. And she does rock. Without Clare I was an accident waiting to happen. I was running hard and fast, building a life about ‘me’ and not ‘we’

Clare’s name means light and she got me to look up. She showed me that learning to shine a light on others is what makes us human.

I learned to create differently, with the heart of the Creator, and our faith has been both our fuel and the tool that has enabled us to help others.

You have one life, make it count

Time flies, so cherish the moments and do everything for momentum. If you embrace today, tomorrow will take shape. Then, learn from your past, make the best use of your talents and spend your treasure making an impact.

I’ve seen so much joy even when I’ve chosen to live a life that is difficult. Through the tears, fears and years I will not rest until I add value to everyone I meet and talking to strangers enhances that opportunity daily!

Alignment for the assignment starts with some refinement! I trust and pray that today you start this countdown and launch into something spectacular
